Since 2002, Visions has concentrated on treatment for drug addiction, substance abuse and troubled adolescents. There are several programs in California but only Visions Adolescent Treatment Centers offer an extensive clinically based treatment for adolescents extending to families.
A Medical Doctor specializing in mental health care and substance abuse treatment for troubled teens executes the initial diagnosis. It is determined if admittance is required in the Adolescent Outpatient Counseling, Adolescent Residential Treatment or Adolescent Day School. The original founding clinicians have stayed on while adding highly skilled health care practitioners for continued growth of the program. Involvement from a family member or legal guardian is highly recommended for a successful recovery unless complications would arise.
Visions Adolescent Outpatient Counseling treatment for troubled teens has two Los Angeles locations which administer solution-based programs to meet the patient’s goal on an individual, group and family basis. Visions’ Intensive Outpatient is the next step in the continuation of care. Visions Adolescent Residential Treatment for troubled teens takes place on a 25 acre gated community in the hills of Malibu, California. The beauty of nature surrounds a Mediterranean style dwelling with a home-like setting. Sleeping quarters are separate for Male and Female patients with two in each room under supervision of day and evening staff. Crisis intervention is readily available on a 24 hour basis. The average stay ranges from 45 to 90 days depending on the severity of symptoms and psychosocial stressors.
A Program Director supervises all counseling services in the treatment for troubled teens. Psychologists conduct psychological tests on youths upon admission. A Licensed Therapist and Counselor work directly with the child throughout the treatment program. A Registered Dietician provides dietary consultation as needed and plans nutritious meals with appropriate caloric intake. An Equine Therapist uses horses to help in identifying and recognizing feelings that may be difficult through conventional therapy. Art Therapists aid in creating interpretive art to use in the treatment plan.

- Assist the teen in identifying situations that lead to drug and alcohol use and understanding that drugs and alcohol for coping does not work.
- Introduce the teen to the 12-step philosophy and encourage participation in Narcotics Anonymous, Alcoholics, Anonymous, and/or Cocaine Anonymous.
- Help the teen to recognize and change problematic behaviors that lead to a relapse.

An advantage of treatment for troubled teens at Visions Residential is academics. Each student engages in 3 hours of individualized schooling using a personalized curriculum on weekdays. An Activities Consultant leads the patient in a “tailor-made” physical fitness program 5 times a week for 1 hour with focus on releasing nervous tension.
The residential treatment includes family-focused therapy for a minimum of 5 hours a week. Multi-Family Group is lead by a Family Therapist addressing issues that affect all families such as communication, conflict handling, and maintaining boundaries. Individual Family Sessions are lead by a Family Therapist providing the child and family members a way to address issues while monitored. Family Education allows the youth and family members to develop an understanding of typical roles played by members of other families. Behaved children earn privileges to attend outings on Sunday and Monday which include movies, museums, the beach, go-cart racing, community service, ropes courses and rock climbing.
Visions Alumni Program, The Fourth Dimension, is an elective enrollment benefit after discharge from Visions Residential and Visions Outpatient Counseling. The setting contributes to intellectual and emotional growth allowing the child to stay grounded while staying objective when faced with hardship. The program has open enrollment offering remedial to honor level education. School hours are 9:00 am to 3:00 pm with tutoring available after hours.

Visions Outpatient works out of network with insurance.
