What Does An Adolescent Outpatient Treatment Program Entail

By December 13, 2024No Comments

Adolescent outpatient treatment provides troubled teens with the professional assistance they need, while allowing them to actively participate in their everyday lives.  Additionally, an adolescent outpatient treatment program can provide parents with the support they need to parent a troubled teen and to rebuild family relationships.   california-teen-addiction-recovery

Adolescent outpatient treatment can address a number of issues including:

  • Mental Health Issues
  • Substance Abuse Issues
  • Eating Disorders

What centers offer adolescent outpatient treatment?

A highly rated treatment center, Visions Adolescent Treatment Centers offer a number of programs to address the needs of teens with mental health issues, substance abuse issues and eating disorders.  Their clinically based programs offer adolescents the support they need to overcome and manage their issues.  This is done by treating each client as an individual to ensure each teen receives the precise level of care they need to be successful.  The programs at Visions Adolescent are specifically designed to involve the family as well and to help support the family unit.  The Visions team understands the importance of parent involvement and requires that teens have an involved parent before they can enter treatment.  For adolescents, family involvement is one of the key factors necessary for recovery.

Visions offers adolescent outpatient treatment in two facilities in the Los Angeles area.  These facilities are designed to support treatment of the teen and their family as well as build the foundation for ongoing support through community resources.

What types of programs are available during adolescent outpatient treatment?

Outpatient treatment can be used differently to meet the needs of an individual.  For some teens, outpatient treatment is a way to transition into, or out of, residential treatment.  For others, outpatient treatment provides the precise level of support needed to identify and address the root cause of a teen’s issues.  For both groups, Visions Adolescent offers two distinct programs:

1st Step Program

An introduction to outpatient care, the 1st step program addresses the needs of adolescents and their family through a number of modalities:

  • 8 week clinical support program with sessions two to three times a week
  • One individual session weekly
  • One family session to address and resolve family issues including dysfunction in communication
  • One group session where families can support one another while they work through the issues that brought them to treatment
  • Drug testing
  • Introduction to 12 step programs for those with substance abuse issues

Intensive Outpatient Program

The intensive program provides additional treatment for both the adolescent and their families. Treatment includes one year of clinical support that is broken into three stages:

  • Months one and two – Primary Care
  • Months three through six – Continuing Care
  • Months seven through twelve – Aftercare Planning

As with the 1st Step Program, treatment is offered in a multitude of ways:

  • Multi-modal group sessions
  • Parental support groups
  • Individual sessions
  • Family sessions
  • Drug testing
  • Introduction to 12 step plans for those with substance abuse issues

What services are available for family support?

Studies have repeatedly shown that family involvement plays a very important role in a teen’s success during treatment.  As such, Visions requires parental involvement for all of its clients.  It is common for families to have negative feelings due to their teen’s issues.  The goal of the family treatment is to help turn those negative emotions into hope, awareness and trust.  This is accomplished through family sessions that help to rebuild relationships.  Additionally, the family sessions provide families with the tools they need to identify dysfunction in their relationships and to overcome those obstacles through improved communication.
