Creative Counseling: Engaging Adolescents in the Therapeutic Process

Objectives:
- Develop a deeper understanding of how to engage the developing teenage brain in therapy sessions.
- Learn how art, physical activity, and creative expression can be integrated into individual and group therapy with adolescents.
- Learn the research behind the mind-body connection and how yoga and meditation can be integrated into therapy.
Abstract:
Jessica Pass Haskell, LMFT-S and Jill Tucker, LPC-S are the co-founders of TruthTribe, a group practice in Houston, Texas. Jill and Jessica both have backgrounds in adolescent treatment programs and an understanding of the developing adolescent brain. Jill brings her experience with behavioral therapy (CBT, DBT and RO DBT), and Jessica integrates her experience with attachment theory and psychodynamic training. Together they created groups incorporating yoga into group therapy for teen girls, and they have experienced the struggles of engaging adolescents in the therapeutic process. Through their work in adolescent treatment, private practice, and together with TruthTribe, they have integrated their training and experience to engage adolescents in meaningful, creative, and even FUN ways. This CEU will provide concrete, strategies they have found to be helpful in engaging adolescents in the therapeutic process, the science that backs it up, and opportunities to create your own creative counseling strategies to use with your clients.
Visions Adolescent Treatment Centers, Provider Number 136315, is a certified Continuing Education Provider by the California Association of Marriage and Family Therapists to sponsor continuing education for LMFT, LCSW, and LPCC. If attended fully, The Creative Counseling: Engaging Adolescents in the Therapeutic Process meets the qualification for one and a half Continuing Education Credits. One hour of credit is provided for every hour of attendance, excluding breaks and meal times. Certificates of Completion will be awarded at the Registration Area at the conclusion of the event in exchange for a completed Participation Evaluation Form. Visions Adolescent Treatment Centers maintains responsibility for the program and its contents.
