The Luck of the Irish

The Luck of the Irish

“The Doctor was puzzled:  ‘I’m very sorry, Mr. O’Flaherty, but I can’t diagnose your trouble.  I think it must be the drink.’

‘Don’t worry about it, Dr. Cullen, I’ll come back when you’re sober.’, said O’ Flaherty.”

When I think of St. Patrick’s Day, the first thing that comes to mind is showing of your flashiest green wares and doing the pub crawl. Despite some lore  considering it a religious holiday (Interesting bit: March 17 is the traditional day for offering prayers for missionaries worldwide before the celebrating begins, so many Irish attend mass!), the main attraction is having a pint…or 20, and possibly even coloring it green. It’s definitely a holiday that lends itself to debauchery.

So, to all of you Irish and Irish at heart, remember this: St. Paddy’s Day may lend itself toward wildness, but it’s not an excuse for binge-drinking whilst yucking it up with your pals. Sure, wear something green if you’re inclined, do, of course, yuck it up with pals, and maybe even go so far as to dine on some bangers and mash. But when you think of socializing, please do it sober. You’ll remember the fun you had, and be less likely to leave a path of destruction behind. Heck, just think of all the wacky stories you might hear at your regular 12-step meeting. It’s where some of the most interesting drunks are anyway!

Have a sober and safe St. Patrick’s Day!
