SOCALYPAA Convention: Recovery En Masse
Finally! The 2nd annual SOCALYPAA conference is upon us! This year it’s being held at the Warner Center Marriott in Woodland Hills and the kick-off meeting is on 10/28 at 9pm!
The Southern California Young People in AA convention will last through the morning of Halloween and will include everything from marathon meetings (those wonderful 1-hour meetings taking place 24 hours a day!) to dances, karaoke, yoga, movies, meditation, and of course, fantastic speakers. If you’ve never experienced a sober convention, you have no idea what you’re missing! It’s a wonderful way to meet new people, fellowship, be of service, as well as fill your recovery cup with relatable words of wisdom. There really is nothing like it. The sheer magnitude of thousands of people, all in recovery, hanging out in the same place without the walls coming down is a miracle in and of itself.
There will be lots of alumni and staff participating in this event; some are leading meetings, some are speaking, and some are leading meditation. There will be great opportunities to reconnect with old friends, the often indelible gardeners of your early sobriety. You could even find that being in an environment keen on recovery propels you into a place of forgiveness and healing. Anything is possible, right? Conventions are a great way to broaden your recovery horizons, and if nothing else, an exceptional reminder that it is entirely possible, if not mandatory to have fun in sobriety!
